Lately I have been obsessed with Chinatown in Downtown Manhattan (there are others out in Queens). I enjoy the trip across the bridge on the Q train, Hello Kitty, Homeopathic herbalists, knockoffs and trinkets. But what really floats my boat is the food.
Dim Sum, Noodle shops, and hole in the wall spots to get great tasting and cheap food have become my ambition. Yesterday, we took the Q train across the bridge, making sure to get great seats to watch the animations that can be seen while underground and the beautiful city vistas while on the bridge. We were in search of a restaurant under the Manhattan Bridge that was listed in Time Out Magazine as a great place for cheap eats. We traveled to East Broadway and Forsythe Street and there it was. 106 Forsythe Street a little, TAKE OUT PLACE! OMG! No where in the article did it say that is was take-out only. Discouraged and hungry we crossed a few streets and found a noodle house with a large screen television and a lazy susan. We had a great meal and my oldest watched TV in Mandarin.
On the way back to the Q train we copped a Rolex in a very brief and intense exchange of expert bartering. We also passes the Old China Town outside market where you can get fresh fruit and vegetables at bargain prices. I think they are a few days old and surplus amounts. I am always in awe of the jewelry shops in the are. Some have super large necklaces made of gold flowers and such and others have lots of diamonds. I love feeling like I took a trip to another country.
